Reserarch design for 'Bewegter Ganztag'
In order to enhance rather than merely adding to the preceding project, a physical activity concept integrating physical activity into school lessons was developed following the example of the Austrian ‘Vital4Brain’ programme. According to studies, physical activity in class is able to enhance students’ attention, concentration and motivation. Physical activity also fosters parts of the brain responsible for learning and memory. Within the framework of the project 'Bewegter Ganztag – Bewegte Schule', impacts of the physical activity concept organised and executed by students themselves was tested with regard to students’ ability to focus and their physical activity in the rest of the day. In order to do so, students’ physical activity was measured over 4 days for 24 hours each day using Actiheart measurements. D2 tests conducted before and after the intervention determine the effectiveness of the physical activity concept.
The physical activity concept is already being implemented at Gymnasium Untergriesbach and Mittelschule Fürstenzell. Measurements of students’ physical activity and concentration capacity are also taken in these school.
